In short
We collect only what we need to take your order, send it to you and answer your questions. If you’ve chosen to hear from us, we also send you our newsletter. We never sell your details, and you can ask us what we hold about you at any time. The full details are below.
1. Who we are
Popplestone Studio is run by Emma Humphries, a sole trader, on Garrison Lane, Isles of Scilly, TR21 0JY. Emma is the data controller for the personal information collected through popplestonestudio.com. You can reach us at emma@popplestonestudio.com or through our contact page.
2. What information we collect
When you place an order, we collect the details you enter at checkout, which are your name, email address, delivery and billing address and phone number. You can buy from us as a guest, so we don’t create customer accounts.
When you use our contact form, we collect the information you put in the form, such as your name, email address and message.
If you subscribe to our newsletter, either at checkout or through a sign-up form, we collect your email address and your choice to receive our emails.
When you pay, your payment is handled by WooCommerce Payments or PayPal. We never see or store your full card details.
Like most websites, ours also collects some technical information through cookies, such as which pages are visited. You can read about this in our Cookie Policy.
3. How and why we use your information
We use your order details to process and send your order, to take payment, to keep our financial records, and to get in touch with you about your order. We rely on the contract between us for this, and on our legal duty to keep accounts.
We use the details you send through the contact form to reply to you. We do this because it is in our legitimate interest to answer people who contact us, and because you’ve asked us to.
We use your email address to send our newsletter only if you’ve chosen to receive it. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by contacting us. We send newsletters with your consent, which you can withdraw whenever you like.
We use website statistics to understand how the site is used and to improve it, where you’ve agreed to this in our cookie settings.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for automated decision-making.
4. Who we share your information with
We share your information only with the people who help us run the shop.
Royal Mail receives your name and delivery address so your order can reach you. WooCommerce Payments and PayPal process your payment. Omnisend handles our newsletter and receives the email addresses of subscribers. Hostinger hosts our website, and our servers are in Europe. Google provides website statistics (Google Analytics) and spam protection on our forms (reCAPTCHA).
These companies only receive what they need to do their job, and each has its own privacy policy. Some of them, such as Google and PayPal, may handle data outside the UK. Where this happens, they use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law. We may also share information if the law requires us to.
5. How long we keep your information
We keep order records for six years, as we need them for tax and accounting purposes. We keep messages sent through the contact form for as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
6. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to ask us what information we hold about you and to get a copy of it. You can ask us to correct anything that’s wrong, or to delete your information where we no longer need it. You can object to how we use your information, ask us to restrict it, or ask for it to be passed to you in a portable format. If we use your information because you’ve given us your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To use any of these rights, email emma@popplestonestudio.com and we’ll reply within one month.
f you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
7. Keeping your information safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Our website uses a secure connection, and payments are processed by trusted providers. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, but we do our best to look after what you share with us.
8. Children
Our website is not aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
9. Links to other websites
Our website may link to other websites. We aren’t responsible for how they handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
