Description
This large blue interactive tile art piece is the biggest of Emma’s Moving Pictures, made of sixty-four clay pieces set in an eight-by-eight grid inside a walnut veneer frame that Emma laser cuts in her studio. Speckled sky blue and aqua, flecked with white and green, gather around a warm patch of sand at the centre, while cobalt lines weave across the whole picture.
Every piece lifts out. Turn one round or swap it with its neighbour, and the cobalt lines will still join up, because Emma designs each piece so its edges connect in any position. With sixty-four pieces to play with, the possible arrangements are almost endless, and the picture never has to look the same twice.
Like all of Emma’s art, the pieces are made from tiny tiles of extruded polymer clay, assembled by hand in her studio on St Mary’s. Each picture comes with a solid wood stand, engraved with its name, that holds it at a gentle angle so the pieces stay in place. It’s art you’re actually encouraged to touch.
